I have successfully used Classic Shell with Win7 in the past 8-)

My (42 yo) daughter runs a small business.
Win 8 has freaked her out ... and me too (somewhat)

Win8
- what are the problems with "Classic copy UI" in Win8 ?
- what are the problems with "Show file size in Explorer status bar " in Win8 ?

Thank you :)

The copy UI in Win7 is functionally equivalent to the one in XP, just with different UI. It shows at the same time and it asks the same questions. The copy UI in Win8 is very different. Making it look and work like XP is not possibly by simply replacing the UI. The flow of operations is different. So the same method that worked on Win7 doesn't anymore.

The status bar in Win7 is a real status bar window that can be hooked. The one in Win8 is inseparable part of the Explorer window. So the same method that worked on Win7 doesn't anymore.

basically neither of these features work in windows 8 (neither do they cause 'bugs' you simply have to endure with windows 8's defaults, or find another method of replacing them)

I would like to suggest to grayghost2 the free, open source copy replacement tool, PerigeeCopy: http://jstanley.pingerthinger.com/pscopy.html It does away with the horrid Windows 8 copy UI dialogs in favor of the classic dialogs (note that it's not just a UI replacement like Classic Explorer does on Windows 7, it's a whole copy engine replacement). It also has other bells and whistles like a much desired Queue feature and another cool feature to automatically replace only newer files in case of an overwrite conflict.

And while there are many other copy replacements like TeraCopy etc, they are buggy shareware quality with poor usability and broken behavior (like not elevating correctly for UAC protected folders!). PerigeeCopy is my favorite.

grayghost2, if you try the latest beta version of Classic Shell linked from the home page, it now has status bar features of Classic Explorer fully operational on Windows 8!! Ivo found a way out. :)

Thank you "GauravK" for your response and update :)

MS Win8.0 WinExplorer is soooo ugly. All white and very hard on the eyes. Especially when overlaid on another white window/background.
Problem is not just aesthetic, but functionality and eye fatigue trying to separate white on white with bugger all borders or caption band.

At least in Win7 I can get a near XP experience.
Down grading to Win7 plus Classic Shell is looking like the path I am going to take.
