That software lets you have a total of 4 desktops so that you can organize what you are doing and swap between them. The problem is with classicshell you only have a start menu on the original desktop and no start menu on any of the other additionally created desktops.

Can you look into this and resolve the problem? Else you have to keep making hundreds of shortcuts on your desktop to be able to launch programs on the other desktop screens.

What version of Windows are you using?
Have you tried manually running ClassicStartMenu.exe on each new desktop?

I tried running ClassicStartMenu.exe on each new SysInternals Desktops 2.0 desktop on Windows 8 but it didn't work. Haven't tried on Windows 7.

Do you get taskbars on each desktop? Do you get separate start screens? I have doubts that Metro will work correctly with multiple desktops.

Yes you get taskbars on each one. The way Desktops works is it starts a whole new shell and everything. It is just as if you logged in to windows again. But Classicshell does not work on any of the other desktops created. Also, they are not "fake" desktops... they are actual desktops, the software is written by one of the Microsoft developers. As the other person mentioned, running manually the classic shell exe does nothing.

You still have not mentioned what version of Windows you are using. In the past people have reported some success with Classic Shell on Windows 7. I have heard reports about problems with multiple desktops on Windows 8 and higher.

I just verified it does the same thing on Windows 7 x64. It fails to load on all desktops created via the Desktops program. It only works on the main normal desktop. Remember, the desktops created from the program are real and legitimate windows desktops. This should be looked into by the developer of classic shell.

Well, multiple desktops are not officially supported. The registry key used to launch the start menu only starts it once in the context of the primary desktop.
Multiple desktops are also not officially blocked. So we can try few things to see what is going on.
First, see if there are multiple copies of the ClassicStartMenu.exe process.
Second, right-click on the main start button and exit the start menu. See if after that you are able to launch it on a secondary desktop.

Okay. There is only 1 exe running by default. If you try and load another copy of the program on new desktops on windows 8 it does nothing. However I just tried the same thing on windows 7 and when I loaded another copy of the exe on another desktop it did actually load up classicshell and the icon changed as expected and it was functioning normally at that point. SO this is a windows 8 "issue" and just the fact that on windows 7 it does not automatically start the classic shell when a new desktop is opened.

On Windows 8, if you exit the start menu on the main desktop, are you able to start it on a secondary desktop?

No. Regardless of if you exit the original exe or not, it will not work on any of the additional desktops.

Starting with Classic Shell 4.2.0, if you use Sysinternals Desktops, on Windows 8 and Windows 10, the Classic Start Menu launches automatically without the 1-minute delay when additional desktops are created.
