Hello,

I am not quite sure where to post this. Also, I am not 100% sure that it has not been tackled before, as the forum will not let me search for the keywords I can think of (icons desktop arrange etc.) because they are deemed to be too generic, although I did my best to browse through the forums.

So, here goes:

I am running ClassicShell 3.6.8 on a Win8 x64 machine. Upon trying to rearrange my desktop icons, I repeatedly had them rearrange automatically on restart. An internet search suggested that this might be due to the "Start button application" impeding Windows from saving the desktop.

I duly arranged my icons as I please, exited ClassicShell and rebooted. Now my icons are as arranged by me, which firmly indicates that indeed ClassicShell is the culprit.

Given that I have a workaround (see above), I only have a few questions:

* Is this behaviour to be expected?
* Is my installation in any way defective?
* Is there any other way (outside shutting ClassicShell down before rebooting) of getting this to work properly?

Thank you in advance.

This is not expected or previously reported.
I would be interested to see where you've seen other reports like this.
I would suggest you try Classic Shell 3.9.0 beta. It integrates into Explorer a little bit differently, which may fix the problem. Or make it worse. It is not known at the moment.

I have seen this issue on different version of Windows; I am not sure on any connection to Classic Shell though. I have found that setting focus to the desktop and hitting F5 will always save the desktop icon positions.

I have this problem as well. Classic Shell 3.6.8 on windows 7 x64.

Only feature I have installed is the start button integration. No explorer shell or ie integration.

If I right-click the start menu, exit Classic Shell and then restart/shutdown/log off desktop icons positions are remembered. If I don't exit classic shell then icon positions are not saved and will revert to the location that had when first logging in.

I'll try 3.9 beta and see what happens tomorrow as I don't have time to mess with it anymore tonight.

[edit]
I made a few minutes time to install the 3.9 beta. The problem persists. The f5 refresh trick works as a workaround for now.
