Hello,

I just started using Classic Shell and am very amazed at all of its features, however, I found a bug.

When moving the mouse cursor to the most bottom-left part of the screen: the CPU usage goes to 40%. This happens when in the desktop view and also happens when the Windows (Metro) Start Screen is showing. It happens on any skin, but I'm using Aero.

Here is how to reproduce the bug:

I'm using Windows 8.1. I installed Classic Shell (latest version 4.3.0).
-> No custom start screen button must be selected.
-> In "Windows 8.1 setting", set "Disable active corners" to "None"

-< in Controls -> Left Click -> should be "Classic Start Menu"

When moving the mouse to the bottom-left extremity of the screen, if I click on the start button, the Windows (Metro) Start Screen appears instead of the Classic Start Menu. If I click anywhere else on the start button (a bit higher or a bit more to the right then the edge of the screen), then the Classic Start Menu appears.

I actually like this behavior because it allows me to easily choose which start menu to open. However the problem is that if I hover the mouse (cursor) at the most extreme bottom-left point of the screen -> the CPU usage goes to 40%. It immediately drops back to 0% when I move the mouse away.

Note: If I change the default start menu button with a custom button, the problem disappears.

If you're able to fix the CPU usage issue for the default start menu button, please leave an option to show the Windows (Metro) Start Menu when clicking at the extremity (bottom-left) of the screen.

So your saying that custom buttons prevent this issue? is this just because they are blocking the bottom corner? IE try shrinking a custom button to 10 pixels in the settings, then see if the bottom corner still causes incidence.
From the sound of it, it might be windows causing the issue, does the issue persist after you uninstall classic shell? (don't worry all your settings will be saved for when you reinstall)
If it does, then there isnt much we can offer, except to run a systems file check. If the problem goes away with classic shell, then we can troubleshoot further from there :)

Yes I can reproduce this issue with the specific combination of Settings that you mention. There is a slight rise in CPU usage when you move the mouse pointer away from the Start button after it has been in the bottom-left-most corner pixel.

This does not happen if Classic Start Menu is not running, the Start button is replaced or if the Start screen corner is disabled.

Hi,

Thanks Gaurav for reproducing the bug!

Jcee: the custom button doesn't block the bottom-left corner. In fact, if you place the cursor in the corner, the default windows start button appears and covers the Classic Shell button. But for some reason, when the custom button is applied, the CPU usage doesn't increase (but is does increase if there's no custom button).
And there's no need to uninstall, simply exiting Classic Shell is enough to stop the issue.

Thanks guys for the quick replies!
