I really like the Classic Shell start menu. I decided that I wanted to go back to the Windows 10 explorer. I did not see a specific option, so I uninstalled Classic Shell. Upon uninstalling Classic Shell, I was only able to access the settings menu. Fortunately, I found my way back to Windows 7. I know that if I closed the settings window, I would be left with a blank screen. This is my second round of uninstalling Classic Shell within Windows 10. The first time, I was SCREWED! I had to load Windows 7 from scratch. Fortunately, I backed up my important info. I still lost several hours reconfiguring everything. What is the proper way to uninstall Classic Shell from Windows 10?

Classic shell should uninstall fine from the add/remove programs menu. Do you have the latest version of classic shell? there were some instability issues when trying to install an older version on windows 10

If that fails, you can try the classic shell utility, which should remove all traces of classic shell

But it sounds like your problem might be more than just classic shell (if your system crashes completely to an unrepairable state)

What do you mean by "Windows 7"? Do you mean the desktop? Or do you mean downgrading from 10 to 7?

I reloaded Windows 7 from scratch because Windows 10 is an upgrade. Since my original post, I have upgraded back to Windows 10. I have been looking on YouTube and have found a common problem with "black screen with only a cursor." It seems to pertain to a Windows 10 graphics driver glitch. I am not sure why an uninstall cause that. It has happened on 2 occasions after uninstalling Classic Shell.

@ProblemChild, do you have Radeon graphics? Some users reported a black screen issue but no one did any further troubleshooting to help fix it.

I have tried repeatedly to uninstall Classic Shell, and tried the Classic Shell Utility as advised in this strand of the forum, but after the uninstall I am left with no start menu.

I should say that apart from not being an IT expert I am only trying to uninstall it as I understand it is blocking Onedrive from working, which is something I need for work.

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

@J3t, are you saying that after you uninstalled Classic Shell, your Windows 10 Start Menu stopped working? Then there is something wrong/damaged with your system as once Classic Shell is uninstalled, it does not affect the functioning of rest of the system or other apps like OneDrive.
