So, I've searched and found a few references to other users not being able to open the run dialog box from the start menu; however, no fixes have been found. So far, I have narrowed down to what's causing it and would like to know if anyone has a work-around / fix. It's one of the bugs holding me from upgrading my main rig to Windows 10.

When the taskbar is positioned to anywhere except the bottom of the screen, the run dialog box does not open when clicking on it from the Classic start menu. The run dialog box will open when pressing "Windows Key + R" at any point. The run dialog box will not open when pressing "Windows Key + X" -> Run when the taskbar is on top or on the sides. I believe these two issues are related. If it's a matter of using the Windows Key + X shell hook, can it be configured to use the Windows Key + R shell hook instead?

Good catch. The behavior I'm seeing is that Win+X -> Run works when the taskbar is at the bottom and on the right, but doesn't work for left or top taskbar. Right-click on the start button and then Run works for all 4 locations.
The new build of Classic Shell should work in all cases.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to your next build release. This is hands down the best shell. I've been using it since I went from XP to Windows 7 to keep my classic start menu setup the way I pictured above and have been using it ever since on all my rigs. I appreciate the attention to details and bug fixes, no matter how small or annoying.

Thank you for researching it. I didn't thought taskbar position may affect the 'Run' item
It's broken for quite a while viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4767&p=20497 and I also look forward to fix

BTW: I have taskbar on the left with auto-hide option enabled. Run works always if started using 'Win + X' or 'Win + R' combination.


Seems to be solved with CS 4.2.4 release
