Can I just download the start button and nothing else? I don't want the toolbars.

No, there is one installer for all features. You can choose which components to install though.

Downloaded the Classic Shell on Windows 8.

However, windows 8 starts the regular way. How do we delete the original Win 8 start Icon and replace it with the Classic start icon?

Why does Win 8 continue to start the same way?

Thanks for your help for this "new lad" to this great resource.

Windows 8 doesn't have an original start icon. Do you mean Windows 8.1 by any chance?

Yes, we have 8.1. Referring to the Windows 8.1 Icon which normally appears on the bottom left where the start button is in windows 7.

This is what appears in the bottom left corner after Classic Shell install. However, it's much smaller than this copy. Screen Shot 2014-07-26 at 11.23.03 AM

The feature to bypass the metro screen only works for Windows 8. That's because Windows 8.1 has a built-in feature for that. It is in the Navigation tab of the taskbar properties.

If you wish to change the default start button with the Classic Shell button, look at the bottom of the Start Menu Style tab of the Classic Start Menu settings. Keep in mind that this is purely a cosmetic change. No change in functionality will occur.
