My understanding of new additions to the start menu being highlighted is that they stay that way for 2 days or until clicked on, whichever is first. This does not happen. They go away after 2 days, but if I click on them and open the programs, they still stay highlighted until the 2 days are up. This behavior doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If it's a bug, hopefully it can be fixed, otherwise could you give the option to modify the behavior to what I just described?

The feature depends on the system that tracks the frequently used programs. Is it possible you have that disabled? It is controlled by the "Store and display recently opened programs" setting in the Taskbar properties.

Yes, I have that disabled. Could you make it independent of that?

You can turn on "Store and display recently opened programs" setting in the Taskbar properties but in the Classic Start Menu settings, turn off Frequent Programs by changing the setting to "Don't Show".
