Hi,

I'm under win 8.1 and I first tried to update my version 4.0.4 (via ad hoc link), in vain ... nothing happened!

I downloaded then the new version and tried to install it over the old version, in vain too ... installation stuck on the screen showing his progression and I have to close the process via Ctr-Alt-Del. :(

If the installation gets stuck, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to start Task Manager, and terminate the Explorer.exe process. That will allow the installation to continue. You may get a UAC prompt or a button below which you have to click to show the UAC prompt once you terminate Explorer.exe.

@ GauravK
The installation remains blocked despite this.
After pressing Ctr-Alt-Del and kill the process, it is impossible to make another installation and you need to reboot the PC.

Which process are you killing? You should only kill Explorer.exe if the installer/Restart Manager fails to close it, not any other process.

I run the installation program and, when it hangs, i go to Task Manager and kill explorer.exe... but nothing happens.
Then I restart explorer.exe to kill the process of the installation.
If - at that moment - I restart the installation of Classic Shell (or I install another program), i receive a message saying that there is an installation in progress and that i must wait or reboot.
Sorry if my previous explanation was insufficient or incomprehensible, I'm french.
Thanks.

You can first uninstall the old version either from the Control Panel or by running the old installer again.
Then reboot, and then install the new version.

If you get such a message on the screen, try choosing the option: "Do not close applications. A reboot will be required". Then the installer may not hang.

You can also try running the installer with the /L switch to log the details to a text file which will be created in the same folder where the installer is. For example:
ClassicShellSetup_4_0_5.exe /L* log.txt

@ Ivo & GauravK
Apparently, there was a problem with my PC : I could not uninstall the old version either.
With Rollback Rx, I returned to the situation on 26 February and I was able to install the update.
Thank you for your valuable help and I apologize for making you lose time.
