I recently upgraded Classic Shell from version 3.6.1 to the latest 4.0.4.
I used to close my applications quickly by right clicking on the "running application button" on the taskbar and press C.
The option "Close Window" got fired and the application quit.

In the newer version I have to press the Enter key as well:
right clicking on the "running application button" on the taskbar, press C and press Enter.

Can I change this behaviour somehow back to as the one from 3.6.1 ?

Classic Shell does not affect the Windows Taskbar, but only the Start Menu, and has Explorer+IE plugins. You can use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to do what you want. It has an option to configure what right clicking on running apps does. Set it to open "Standard window menu". Then you will be able to right click and press C to close.
