First of all, thanks for making Windows more bearable.

Using the latest version 4.2.1

Issue: Number of items in Document list (Recent) don't stay at the number I set in the settings (mine is 25).
I get long links occasionally that all point to a single file.
Recent documents folder also does not store more than what is available in the Document list.
Previous windows versions would store all documents that have been opened and if a new one is deleted, it would fall back on the older ones that are already in the "Recent" folder. That is what would be preferable instead of losing the documents short cut and trying to find it again.

Please excuse if this has been discussed. I did not find anything on this in the forum that I searched.
Appreciate your help and input.

Are you saying the Documents list shows you fewer than 25 items, but there are more than that in the actual Recent folder?

Actually, the opposite.
There are 23 items (short cuts) in the Recent folder. There are also 11 folder links as well.
The missing 2 short cuts are then "filled in" by Classic Shell as long links to some file in one of the folders.

This happens randomly. Even though I had more than 25 files opened in the last few weeks. Even this morning, there were 25 short cuts shown. But if I delete the new ones that I don't need any more, what I described above happens. Instead of keeping the older short cuts, it does not even keep up to 25.

I would expect it to keep all previous short cuts to files opened in the Recent folder so it can fall back on those if the count goes less than 25 (in case short cuts are deleted). Also, it helps to sometimes go back to the Recent folder and choose the file you want to open that may have been the 26th or 27th one that is no longer in the Documents menu.

So you are saying that the Recent folder doesn't keep as many shortcuts as you wish? If so then it is not a start menu issue. The OS maintains the contents of the Recent folder, and probably deletes the ones that are too old or if the count becomes too high. I also vaguely remember noticing that there is a limit for the shortcut count for each file type - text files, images, etc.

If that is the case, I would never have a menu full of 25 short cuts. But I had it this morning. And then it reduced to 23 all of a sudden. Most of the files are excel or powerpoint.

You can open this folder in Explorer and see if the contents are the same: C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\.

Anyway, the folder *is* maintained by Windows. Classic Shell only shows from it, the recent x number of items that you set it to show.

The folder/file ("Recent") you mentioned is where I was checking the short cuts from.
Anyways, as you said, maybe it is a Windows issue.
Thanks for responding.
