Upgrade to 8.1 breaks the Classic Shell installation. You need to run the installer again and select the Repair option.

Hi,

last sunday I updated my notebook from Win 7 to Win 8 and installed the most recent version of Classic shell, and it worked fine. A very good piece of software!

After installing a bunch of updates for Win 8 I decided to install Win 8.1. After the update the ClassicStartMenu.exe didn't appear in taskmanager and there was no StartMenu available. I did a repair install of Classic shell, but in my case it didn't work. So I uninstalled and reinstalled Classic Shell, same result. I noticed that it worked after using the Classic Shell Settings tile.

So I added an autostart entry for ClassicStartMenu.exe for each user as a workaround, but I think there should be a better way to fix this problem. Does anyone know about?

For most people a repair or reinstall does fix the problem. Some have reported that it doesn't work for them, just like in your case. I am working on a tool that will collect information about your system in attempt to diagnose the problem.

Please download this tool: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3uker ... tility.exe

Before you run it, remove the autostart entry you have added and reboot. Then run the tool and select a text file for it to save (for example on the desktop). Then either attach the file here or send it directly to classicshell@ibeltchev.com. The file may contain some sensitive info (like the software you have installed), so you might prefer the email option.
