I've been using Classic Shell on the laptop with Windows 10 for 'years' but now it is opening with the 'wrong' display ie. Classic Start Menu(windows) instead of the lovely 'old fashioned display that I love !

Please tell me how to change it as I have failed !

classic shell does not control what display a window will open up on. this is a common windows problem, and there are a few other programs that solve this issue. (sadly I don't know of any free ones)
Display Fusion is the one I use personally (for other features) It can be setup to send windows to certain monitors automatically. however it is not an ideal solution (it takes about 1 second after the window opens. It does have a free trial if you want.
Other options like http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ seem to have the feature requested, however I havn't used them personally.

Thanks for the advice -- I may not have explained too well, by display I meant the Desktop on my laptop.

I will try your suggestions but am still wondering why two of my computers are still as expected and this laptop is no but it is otherwise fine ie. no other

changes - I've been using Classic Shell since Win 8 appeared years ago.

I don't understand what you are asking. Can you post a screenshot of what is happening? And explain in more detail what you expect to happen instead?

Ah well - I'll try the text -Since installing the Classic Shell - I have
always had an opening Desktop which was Windows 7 in style and I added any
Icons I wanted - - but suddenly I found the desktop was Windows 8 or 10
style with Tiles -

and I don't want Tiles - that was the idea of installing Classic - leastways
it was what I wanted !

My other computers - which are Windows !0 - are still opening with the Win 7
desktop - and I can't work out what has happened to my laptop. The start
button is the expected 'classic' rectangular shape with a shell on it.

Sounds like you have tablet mode turned on. Press Win+A and uncheck tablet mode at the bottom.
