When I left click my START button, the START menu appears. It contains a folder named FAVORITES. I can find this folder at C:\users\joey\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\start menu. I have two problems with this folder on my start menu

1. I want to add a keyboard shortcut for the folder (an underlined letter in the name to serve as a keyboard shortcut so I do not have to use the mouse to clickk the folder. Can I do this, and if so how?

2. When I open the classic start menu SETTINGS (right click START button, select SETTINGS) and I go to the CUSTOMIZE START MENU tab, this FAVORITES folder does not appear in the left column. (The "other" favorites, with the yellow star ICON is on the right side and I could put it on the left and have it appear on my start menu. However, this is NOT the favorites I want.) Why is does this folder not appear in the CUSTOMIZE START MENU left panel?

thanks

Joe Petree

Your Favorites folder must be a pinned folder in the left column of the Start Menu. To add an accelerator for it, rename it with & before the underlined key. For example, F&avorites. Then when you press a and the focus is not in the Search box, it will go to this item.

I did rename it with an amphersand after the F. That doesn't change anything. The name then appears in classical shell as F&avorites.

That is a windows convention, but it appears classic shell does not adhere to it.

Yes the name appears that way instead of underlining a. That's because if an actual filename contained '&', there would be no way to differentiate between the two. But you can use the accelerator key 'a' to take the focus to F&avorites.

thanks Guarav,

Okay, now I get it. I add the & and the name appears are "F&avorites". Then, I just hit the A key and it gives it focus. Not sure why you said I need to use an accelerator key. Just plain "A" works.

I tried to figure out how Windows gets the other items in the Start Folder to contain an underline and I'm stumped. I searched over and again through the registry, and when I found occurrences of "favorites", none contained an amphersand in the name. I have created GUI's with autohotkeiy and the use of an ampersand works like window when, for example, giving a button text. I still think this must be something that Classic Shell could handle but does not.
