So I've been searching around for a while and I have had no luck finding any reference as to how to do it. What I need to do is to add a custom button to the toolbar which executes a command based on the currently viewed directory.
The command I want to run is:

cmd /K "cd /d <current directory>"


btw, I also noticed while searching how to do this that if you right click in a folder while holding shift there is an option called "Open command window here" which does the same thing

Use %1 for the current directory. Look at the "Examples for Custom Commands" section in the help for more info.
