Classic Shell is a suite containing a Start Menu, a Windows Explorer plugin and an Internet Explorer plugin. When you run the installer called ClassicShellSetup... you can select the components to install.

After that the Start Menu will automatically start and by default it will boot you to the desktop. Just press the Start button to open the menu. The first time you open, it will ask you to pick a style - classic style of the menu or Windows 7 style. You can change all the Start menu settings in that dialog You can configure other components from Start -> All Programs -> Classic Shell folder.

So to set it up, you need to open the items called Classic Start Menu Settings, Classic Explorer Settings, and Classic IE Settings and turn on the features you want.
