I used Windows Basic and tried to change 8.bmp color and the start menu disappears except for the user icon. The only issue I see is the size of the bmp decreased by 9k. What is the problem? thanks...

Try enabling the skin errors. Look for an option named "Report skin errors" in the General Behavior tab.

Did not report anything or should I be looking for a .log?

EDIT: On the same line, all I did was change the white color in the center, why would the file size of the image change?

1) It should show a balloon on the start button

2) You probably deleted the alpha channel by accident (maybe you are using a bitmap editor that is not alpha channel-aware)

I am using PaintNet; I don't see anything about alpha channel in particular.

I just removed the user name and user picture and the menu came back but the corners are square instead of round on glass and reduced like normal.

Got it, and you were right about the alpha - install Pixelformer.

Thanks a lot Ivo...

Yes Paint.NET does not support 32-bit BMPs out of the box. You need a 32-bit BMP plugin for it: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=3846

Thanks GauravK, that works. Maybe PaintNet will build thin in someday as an option instead of having to rename the file.
