How can we tell if we're using Classic Explorer. I installed Classic Shell and love it, but from what I can tell it installs all 4 programs? I dislike the current Windows Explorer in Windows 8, I want the old one back but I can't tell if I should disable the other three programs on the installation process with the red X to install just Explorer, or just install it all. I don't use IE.
Thanks

"Classic Explorer" is just an addon to the default Windows Explorer. It is not a replacement: http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#general_whatnot

I'm really not sure now... I've been dissatisfied with not being able to find or undo anything for a while. I recently started using windows 8 and started using Classic Shell immediately! I like the old Windows Explorer where the view toggles are on the right part of the top of the screen and there was not a hundred other items up by the old menu. I didn't see anyway way to turn on or off Classic Explorer, just a few options so I still can't tell.... maybe it's just windows 8 Explorer I don't like... along with most other things about windows 8.

Classic explorer toolbar looks like this: http://www.classicshell.net/gallery/Classic-Explorer/CustomToolbar
and should be on the top of your explorer windows, if you want to customize specifically what is shown you can right click anywhere on one of those icons, and select "Classic explorer settings"
This toolbar (and the modifications contained within the settings page) is the extent of classic shells involvement with windows explorer.

Well, I have that toolbar, but it's not at the top... far right. Can't figure out how to get it to the top.

I like all the options and the appearance in these images http://www.classicshell.net/gallery/Cla ... tomToolbar, but I cant get rid of all the other stuff that's already there in the way. The collage of icons and junk I don't like. I've tried all the settings I can find and there is no way to turn it off that I can find, or to move the toolbar to the top. There is no titlebar up button, even after adding it, closing and reopening explorer either....
Very odd.

You can disable the Ribbon using Winaero's Ribbon Disabler: http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.20 and it will return you to the Windows 7 Explorer UI (Note that Classic Shell bears no responsibility for 3rd party software recommendations, it's only for your convenience).

Once the menu bar returns, you can right click on it, and unlock the toolbars. Then you can move the Classic Explorer toolbar around as you want, right click it, open Settings and add any view buttons or basically commands you want.
