Greetings

I was wondering if the following 2 things were possible

1) rename "This PC" to "Computer"
2) change the behavior of right click "This PC" -> manage to launch compmgmt.msc instead of launching the server manager dashboard

Thanks!

Classic Shell does not deal with such kinds of customizations. You may get better answers in the specialized forums, like http://www.eightforums.com/customization/

You can rename This PC back to Computer by right clicking it -> Rename from Windows Explorer. The change will be reflected in the Classic Start Menu too.

thanks for the link to the other forum. Apparently the rename is pretty easy (as seen here: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/24 ... ndows.html)

i'm currently playing with this to see if i can change the right click behavior:

So apparently the utility that i linked earlier doesn't work properly in windows8/server 2012

to change the manage behavior back to opening compmgmt.msc you need to do the following:

go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Manage\command
double click the (default) string and change the data to be as follows:
C:\Windows\System32\mmc.exe C:\Windows\System32\compmgmt.msc
click OK

to undo, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Manage\command
and change default back to:
%SystemRoot%\system32\CompMgmtLauncher.exe
