On our servers we have a bunch of drive mappings that are important to scripts that we run on a daily basis on those servers. We're now on Servers 2012. It appears that since I've installed the Classic Shells, which I love, I no longer have any power over drive mappings. Any drive I map in the command shell or Power Shell does NOT show up in Explorer, and, any drive I map in Explorer does NOT show up in command shell or Power Shell. And, none of the drives I map are persistent. I have to re-map after I log out and log back in.

We just ran some tests. We see this behavior on all of our local 2012 servers. But, I've never installed, yet, Classic Shell on our remote, suburban backup servers. So, I went to them this afternoon and I had absolutely no problems with drive mappings. All drives mapped in the command shell or Power Shell showed up in Explorer, and, vice versa. And, surprisingly, all drives were persistent after I logged out and logged back in, even though I didn't even tell them all to be persistent.

Thanks,
Peter

Verify on the same machine that with Classic Shell it fails and without it the problem doesn't appear. You can temporarily disable it from the "Start automatically for this user" setting.

It may be possible that since Classic Shell starts early, it starts caching the data from the mapped drives before they are fully ready. It will only do this if any system folders like Start Menu or Programs are mapped onto those drives. Is that the case?

I believe you're correct. I uninstalled Classic Shell on our production server and we still can't map drives properly. Thanks for your help.
