Hi there,

after using CS 3.* on my home PC for almost a year now, I'm in the process of upgrading the PCs in my small office to Win 8, German version. On the first two machines that I installed the submenus in the Start menu (Classic style) behave strange. After rebooting, the submenus work fine and open automatically when hovering over the parent entry. Some time later they stop opening automatically, I have to click on the entry to open them.

Any idea what could be wrong here?

Regards
Frank

Does it stop opening completely, or it gradually increases the hovering time?
If you exit the start menu and run it again, does it fix itself?

It's stopping completely all of a sudden (at least, I can't yet recognize a pattern).

After restarting CS it is working fine again.

Today it happened on 3 machines, however, the configuration of these machines is somewhat cloned. Still I didn't notice a reproducable pattern, but in two cases it occurred after the machines have been left alone for some time.

I have the same issue. In my case it seems to be related to the search box on the CS start menu.

Try this.

CS Start -> Enter "calc" into search box and select calc.exe (or anything else) from the results.
Go back to the start menu. Did the sub menus stop opening automatically?

Go back to CS start, leave the search box empty and click the search button.
Click somewhere on the desktop, now go back to CS... Sub menus working again?

Does the description here explain the behavior you are seeing? viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1713#p8750

It's exactly as Ed3 describes it, which seems to be the same as in Ivo's link.

Using Ed's steps, I can always reproduce this behavior and fix it.

In fact, just searching in the search box doesn't affect the submenus, you have to click on a search result in order to deactivate submenus.

I can repro the issue with all 3 users' settings - Frankie, Ed3 and Yaron's from here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1713#p8750 . If the search box is clicked and then something launched from the menu, subsequently submenus don't open upon hover when the menu is next opened.

I was able to find a combination of settings that reproduces the issue for me. It will be fixed in the next version.

Classic Shell 4.0.4 fixes this issue of submenus not opening by hover after clicking on the search box.
