I installed Classic Shell on a Windows 8 computer however when the computer boots up I still get the Windows 8 tiles. Is this the way it is supposed to work? if so how do I toggle to Classic Shell?
I did put a shortcut link in the startup folder but I get an error message indicating the classicshellmenudll.dll is missing. I checked the products installation and the dll is in the directory. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled it with no success.
Can anyone provide a suggestion?
Thank you

You can try this, for Win 8-10:
"Windows+R", type "shell:startup" and then copy the link (for the current user) ;
"Windows+R", type "shell:common startup" and then copy the link (for all users).

Hope this helps.

Are you running Windows 8.0 or Windows 8.1?

Right click the Taskbar -> Properties. On the Navigation tab, check "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start." Now Windows 8.1 won't start on the Tiles screen but will instead boot to the desktop.

I just checked and I am running Windows 8 Pro, not 8.1. When I right click on the taskbar the only options I have are Taskbar, Jump Lists and Toolbars. I do not have a navigation tab.

Also I have uninstalled and reinstalled on the machine. When it tries to load I get a message "the program can't start because classicstartmenudll.dll is missing from your computer". I checked the program files and it is not missing.

Check your Antivirus. It might be blocking Classic Shell files. Temporarily disable it and see if Classic Shell works.

I just did a reinstall of this machine from Vista to Windows 8. This is a clean machine with no software and no virus program on it yet.

Use the Classic Shell Utility: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3uker ... tility.exe to remove Classic Shell completely. Then reinstall and see if the error goes away.

thanks for your help. I decided to go a different route rather than continue to try to troubleshoot this.
