Remember when Explorer would simply remember each folders split-view / single pane-vew for each
and every folder? It sure was nice being able to have tree view as the system default, while some
folders like on the desktop or the quick launch would open (by choice) in single pane mode.

Is that something Classic Explorer could ever do? (heavy sigh) lol

With Vista, the distinction between Explorer and My Computer was removed, both verbs, "Open" and "Explore" mean the same and there is no programmatic way to toggle the folder pane. But you can add a button to the Command Bar in Windows 7 using Winaero's Explorer Toolbar Editor to quickly toggle the folder (navigation) pane. On Windows 8, it can added to the Ribbon's Quick Access Toolbar, or if you disabled the Ribbon, to the Command Bar like on Windows 7, so it's 1-click away.

Good news. The latest Classic Shell 4.0.6 has a built-in button now to toggle the folder/navigation pane as well as the Details pane and the Preview pane so even if Open/Explore verbs are the same, you can now quickly toggle the panes.
