I've just upgraded Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell 4.2.5 to Windows 10. Whenever I restart, Classic Shell says it "needs to configure itself for the new operating system" and tries to run ClassicStartMenu.exe -upgrade. Windows10 refuses to let this run; Classic Shell starts fine afterwards.

I notice there is a 4.2.5c with updated certificates, but when I try to install it, it says that I have to uninstall the existing version first. Is there a way to update so that the annoying startup messages will go away, but without losing my current configuration settings?

TIA...

Well, like the message said, uninstall the current version and then install 4.2.5c. You will not lose the settings.

Great. I wasn't sure whether I would lose the settings, since I have a heavily customised start menu, but I just reinstalled, and all is well. Thanks!
