Hi

I am a new member, nice to meet you all.

I hope someone can help with this.

I usd to use the classic shell on windows 8 and liked the settings.
I have now upgraded to windows 10.
I don't know how to access the classic shell settings, becauase I would like some of the items on my left hand start menu to have an automatic drop down menu, the way they used to, before I installed windows 10.
For instance, I used to click 'documents' on the left hand start menu and the sub folders would appear, and if i wanted to, I could even create drop down menus for the subfolders from the left hand start menu, so I could go straighth to the subfolder wanted, all from the start menu.

Now, although classic shell is installed as I checked my programs, in my start menu, the only thing that appears is Classic Explorer.

I want to create the drop down menus mentioned above, for easy access, but when I cllicked the Classic Explorer settings in the left hand start menu - I've gone through all the tabs and I cannot see an option to create drop down menus, for easy access to subfolders, on "Documents" on the left hand start menu.
Has this option been taken away, or am I just not looking in the right place

I hope I've described what I want clearly, as I had a bit off difficulty describing what i want, and what I used to be able to do with old classic shell on win 8.1
I use a lenovo flex laptop.

Classic shell settings seem to have changed totally. I never heard of classic Exolorer but i finnd it much harder than the old style.

I tried to update to and older version, but it just gave me 'black screen' and I had to look on my phone internet to find out how to acess my programs as no keyboard options would work.

Anyway sorry to ramble, hope you can help

Classic shell has 3 components that you can select on install: Classic start menu, classic explorer, and classic IE
If you cant right click the start button to get to settings, simply reinstall the program, checking the start menu component of the program.

Hi and thanks for your message, the only version I can download version ClassicShellSetup_4_2_5(1)

I tried downloading an earlier version from sourceforge version 3 something and I got black screen, I thought I had lost a load of data, I had to go on my phone internet to find out how to get out of black screen
I downloaded the above but the options seem limited, on install I chose alll thee things, classic shell, classic explorer and classic

Older versions (the 3.xx versions) aren't compatible with windows 10

If you checked all 3 components to install, then you should be able to right click your start button, and have a menu that says settings.
Alternatively try holding shift then right clicking the start button. There is a setting that changes the function of normal right clicks.

If neither of those work; navigate to your install directory (default location: C:\Program Files\Classic Shell) and run "Start Menu Settings"
The only other thing I can think might be a registry setting (but you would have had to manually set that previously)

After you install Classic Shell, open:
- Classic Start Menu Settings to configure the start menu+button
- Classic Explorer settings to configure the Explorer toolbar and other Explorer features
- Classic IE Settings to configure IE add-ons

To create a cascading/expanding menu for various folders, go the Customize Start Menu tab of Classic Start Menu settings.

If you mean the files and documents that show for a particular program in the Start Menu's left column, you need to make sure jump lists are enabled in your Start Menu. In Classic Start Menu settings, go to Main Menu tab and make sure "Enable jumplists" option is enabled.

You also need jumplists turned on at the operating system level. On Windows 10, the setting for it is in Settings app -> Personalization -> Start. "Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar".

After this, you need to open a few documents with the program to see them in the flyout arrow.
