After I installed 4.2.5, I noticed two missing icons for my apps - Amazon and NetFlix.
My other apps have their icons.
I remember this happening before and one of you developers was able to send me a fix.
Could you please look into this again for me?
The only change since my last bug report topic is I'm on Windows 8.1 64 bit now... so I don't suspect Microsoft changes this time.
Last time I think what worked was a developer sent me a dll file which I guess corrected a path to search for icons and I restarted Classic Shell and it was fixed.

Delete the file %localappdata%\ClassicShell\DataCache.db, right click the Start Button and choose Exit. Then start the menu again from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe.

Didn't work.

Can you show me a screenshot of your Apps menu?

It won't show all of my apps, but it will show the two not displaying icons (Amazon and Netflix).
As far as I know, I haven't changed anything... it's a fully up to date 64 bit Windows 8.1 and all I did was update to Classic Shell 4.2.5 from the "fosshub" link.

I installed both apps on my Windows 8.1 and the icons look fine. What happens if you grab one of them and drag it around? Do you get the correct icon?

Yes... but if I copy it to my desktop, for example, it's blank and says "app".

Yeah, that's normal. Those shortcuts don't work on the desktop, just the start menu.

These two apps have a white background. Most apps also have a white icon. Maybe in your case you get both, and then the entire thing is white. Try using a colored skin, like Metro, and also turn on the setting to invert the Metro icons (it is in the Menu Look tab). See if you get a white "a" or "N" icon in that case.

I've always seen the "A" or "N" when I move them around.

This problem with the icons not showing in the apps menu only started after updating to Classic Shell 4.2.5

I understand. What I'm trying to figure out is if you are seeing a missing icon or a white icon on a white background. Doing the test I proposed will check that.

They're only white if I copy them to desktop.
Missing only seems to be in the apps menu.

I don't think you understand what I'm asking.
1) Set your skin to Metro
2) Turn on the setting to invert the Metro icons
3) Restart the menu as instructed
4) See if you get an icon in the apps menu and what color is it

They come back in the start menu apps folder if they're inverted.
I'm okay with this for now, but, probably also open to other ideas if you want to find a proper fix.
So far so good, I think we're on to something now.

Hmm it happens only for Metro apps with white background and only if the setting for All Programs style is set to "Inside main menu" (tree control) and only if the icons are not inverted. Inverting the icons fixes it.

That just confuses me even more... all I know is this was not a problem with Classic Shell 4.2.4 and only started now with Classic Shell 4.2.5
But I'm fine with having them inverted since it still "fixes" it.

Version 4.2.5 uses a new method for getting the Metro icons, which produces higher-quality result. However it relies on the OS to provide valid information. If the OS tells me that the icon is white and the background is white, there is nothing I can do to question it. Unfortunately I can't reproduce the problem to investigate further.

BTW, I just downloaded those two apps. Maybe the latest version has better icons. Make sure you are up to date.

Ivo, maybe you can reproduce the problem if you increase the Small Icons and Large Icon size to something non-standard like 20 or 40? In further experiments, I observed that if change the icon size to 48, Invert Metro icons doesn't fix it either.

Possibly, but that's why I asked for a screenshot - to verify that the size is 16x16.
