You can capture a slowdown dump using instructions here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6 to help Ivo understand what is causing the slowdown.

The dumps can only be captured one second apart, which is not enough resolution to detect issues shorter than a second like in this case.

You can try running a tool like Process Monitor to see what the explorer.exe process is doing during that time. Maybe it will point you to particular folder or registry key that stands out.

You can also try disabling particular features to see which one is slowing things down. Try turning off the frequent/recent list, and the highlight of new programs. They are the slowest because they require the entire start menu to be scanned.

Also if you have any network folders in the start menu, remove them. Network access is slow.

Try turning off only "Show recent Metro Apps" and let me know if it makes a difference.

Is there a slowdown when you look at the Apps folder in All Programs?

Same problem here with Windows 10 RTM (10240) : very slow to open the start menu.

But, I have also the same solution you given : without "Show recent Metro Apps" it's instant, thank you ;)
