Maybe you have option to go to Apps view checked? Right click Taskbar -> Properties. On the Navigation uncheck the option "Show the Apps view automatically when I go to Start".

In this dialog "Show the Apps view automatically when I go to Start". If you have it checked, it will show you the list of apps in Metro but not the Start screen with Live Tiles.
