==== copy ====
In the currently open folder, click Organize in the toolbar, and then click Folder and Search Options.
In Folder Options, click the View tab, and then click Apply to Folders. (To switch these folders back to their default settings, click Reset Folders.)
==== end of copy ====

Classic Shell does not affect any of that. You can temporarily uninstall it to verify if the problem is related to the installation.
Looks like on Windows 7 "Apply to folders" is grayed out for folders inside a library: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 7fa408e9ab
I don't know why, but it appears to be by design.

I will investigate but I need more info. What was the exact folder you were using when "Apply" was disabled and was it inside a library?

@grummel2005, this article will help you: How to set a folder view in Explorer for all folders – List, Details, Tiles, Small or Large Icons

First click "Reset folders" in Folder Options and then follow the instructions in that article exactly.

Classic Shell absolutely does not affect folder views in ANY way.

"Apply to Folders" is greyed out if you opened Folder Options from the Control Panel. It is also greyed out if you open Folder Options when inside a Library. You must open it from within an Explorer window using the View menu when you are browsing a folder. Then you must click "Apply to Folders" for all five folder templates. Read the Winaero article in Detail and you will understand how it works.
