Left clicking the start button at the bottom of the screen only sometimes opens the start menu. It usually opens the metro unless I press the windows key to open the start menu. I have not found any consistent reason for this happening. I have checked to make sure that the left click opens start menu is checked. The Classic Shell Utility log is attached.

Maybe it depends on the point where you click?
Do you use the default Windows start button, or the one from Classic Shell?

Also, is this a new problem or just appearing recently, like after a Windows update?

It doesn't appear to matter when I click. This is a recent issue. It appeared a couple days after i ran updates.

There is a known issue with Avast and the latest KB3000850 update. Can you try temporarily uninstalling Avast to see if it is related?

I will try uninstalling avast. I uninstalled the KB3000850 update

I have uninstalled avast and the issue still occurs. The last thing I can remember installing before the issue started occuring is the game Insurgency

After more vigorous testing it does appear that this issue only occurs depending on where I click on the start button. The area that causes the issue is the bottom left corner.
