Hi! Are the developers planning to adapt Classic Shell to interact with Windows 8.1 Update 1, expected to be offered by Microsoft on April 8? Is it likely that we will still be able to boot to desktop, bypassing the Metro Start Screen? Classic Shell is fabulous! It is so logical and helpful that I find its straight-forwardness aesthetically attractive in itself :D Although there are a few odd incidental attractions for mouse/keyboard users in the Metro Start Screen, retention of the desktop with so much of the functionality of Win XP and 7 - and more - has happily waved any regrets for updating from Win 7 to 8.1 :P - Phil

Some people have reported that most Classic Shell features work fine on Update 1. I wouldn't know until it is officially released. Even then, it will probably take a month to iron out all the kinks.

BTW, the booting to desktop is not a Classic Shell feature (in Windows 8.1). It is function of the OS. I suspect it will still work after the update because it is intended to improve the desktop experience.

Thank you Ivo, I guess we should keep Classic Shell installed while the kinks are being ironed out. What you said about Microsoft allowing users to continue booting to the desktop makes sense when they're trying to retain mouse and keyboard users. - Phil
