I'm running Windows 8 (64 bit) on my desktop. I have the Task Bar on the RHS. I am connected to a second monitor on the left of the first and I extend the desktop to that monitor with a Task Bar on the LHS of that monitor. I often just run with 1 monitor and only switch the second one on when I need it (it's always connected, but is on separate graphics card) . When I do so the Classic Shell works fine on the second monitor, but although I get the Task bar on the first monitor, all the ikons have disappeared. I can get them to reappear, but only by rebooting, or by going to the second monitor, unlocking the task bar then going back to the first monitor and adjusting the task bar width. This occurs whether the laptop is on or not (see below)

I should mention I am running Mouse without Borders to control my laptop (which is also on Windows 8 - but 32 bit) with my desktop keyboard and mouse and there is an oddity which may or may not be related. The laptop is configured "below" the desktop so I cannot move the mouse pointer up beyond the top of the desktop display. However I CAN move the mouse BEYOND the RHS of the main desktop monitor, even though it goes nowhere. This applies whether the laptop is powered up or not.

What you are describing is a Desktop issue, not related to Classic Shell.

Classic Shell is not the Desktop: http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#general_whatnot

Not sure why you are saying this. It is ABSOLUTELY Classic Shell related - I wouldn't have the Task bar at all otherwise - see first para - (let alone get it corrupted)! I accept it may be Mouse without Borders related (which is why I mentioned it) - though it occurs when MWB shouldn't be doing anything.

The taskbar and the desktop are NOT part of Classic Shell. They are part of Windows. Only the start button and start menu are part of Classic Shell.

Uninstall Classic Shell and you will see that you still have the desktop. It may not show automatically, so you will have to click on the Desktop tile or press Win+D.
