I need to see Windows 8 "Library" folder and tried to add it back to Classic but I couldn't.
How can I remove Classic Explorer from my Windows 8.1 ?

Classic Explorer has nothing to do with libraries. Maybe you did some registry hack to hide the libraries from Explorer? If so, you have to remember what you did and reverse it.

Reasonable question in general, though. The Classic Start Menu can be easily temporarily disabled, but I can't figure out a way to remove the other two parts without completely uninstalling the whole set. Heck, I can't even figure out if there is a process to kill, is everything in Classic Explorer and Classic IE just a GUI for registry edits?

It'd be a shame for a critical bug in one part to end up requiring the complete abandonment of the others until the bug is fixed.

Classic Explorer and Classic IE addons can be disabled from Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs tab > Manage Add-Ons (Toolbars and Extensions section).

I did the 'disable' and the Classic File Explorer features 'disappeared' :)

But when I 'enabled' it again the Classic File Explorer features didn't come back. I tried a Windows reboot to no avail. :o

I'm a bit reticent to uninstall/reinstall the whole package again, because I don't want to lose the my Start Menu customisations (yes, I know I can backup/restore settings)

I was trying to figure out where the Default Folder View Setting is when the Classic File Explorer features are enabled - see attachment.

You can uninstall and reinstall everything without losing any settings. They are stored in the registry.

Classic Explorer does not change anything related to the folder options.

Hi Ivo

I expect application programs that put things in the registry to remove them from the registry when the application program is uninstalled.

When Classic Explorer is enabled I can't see the section where you can set the default view - as in the area in the red box on my attachment.

Why didn't the Classic Explorer features reappear when I re-enable CP->Internet Options->Programs->Manage Add-Ons->Toolbars and Extensions->Classic Explorer Bar. Even after a reboot.

Thanks

This is a) impossible, because the uninstaller doesn't have access to the user registry for all users, and b) undesirable, because upgrading from one version to the next will lose all settings.

Can I see a screenshot? And are you viewing properties for the exact same folder? And open the properties the exact same way?

I don't know. Did you enable all addins? There are two, maybe 3 - Classic Explorer Bar, ExplorerBHO, ClassicIEBHO.

*** Problem Solved ***

Ah-ha - To get it back I had to check File Explorer->View->right click Options->Classic Explorer Bar. It must have been checked after the install, but the Internet Options...re-enable (disable/enable) didn't re-check it.

For reasons best known to TPTB, I assumed the settings behind the blue shell icon included all the settings in View Options.

I'm still getting used to the Win 10's ribbon driven File Explorer - just upgraded from Seven. Thank goodness for Classic Start Menu without it i might have regressed to Win 7.
