When I compare Windows XP with the newer Windows system, one of the visible deteriorations is the removal of independence between Windows XP "My computer" & "Windows Explorer".

The fabulous thing was that you could set up, e.g., "My Computer" to open without a navigation pane and opening each folder in a new window and at the same time you could use "Windows Explorer" setting with a navigation pane and opening each folder in the same window. Not to mention that the Windows XP was capable to remember the position of an opened folder, so you wouldn't have to chase your Windows Explorer all around the desktop each time you changed the open folder.

Can you imagine that comfort. Even the tiny operational systems like Windows 98 or Windows 2000 have been capable to make it like that.

No matter, what they tell about the improvements of the new Windows Explorer, something very comfortable got lost. Now, My Computer and Windows Explorer are the same thing. So, instead of 2 things, we've got only one. What is so good on it?

I am looking for program, which could make it happen again, the old fashioned comfortable way, in Windows 7.
Is there such a program?
Thank you.

No that is no longer possible as "Computer" and "Windows Explorer" are one and the same since Vista. But with Classic Shell, you do get a quick button to toggle the navigation (folders) pane.

Remembering an individual folder's size or position also is removed starting with Windows 7 but there is a third party program/hack called ShellFolderFix that can do it: http://www.sevenforums.com/free-develop ... -size.html

Note that Classic Shell is not responsible for third party apps recommended in this forum.
