Post subject:  File manager closes in Windows 8.1 when media ejected

Hi Forum, File manager (Windows Explorer) closes when, for exmaple, a USB flash drive is removed if the focus was on that drive
I do understand that this is by intent but this hasn't always been the case for earlier versions of Windows where instead the focus would have moved up
However, I do recall that this was 'fixed' (at least for Windows 7) by an earlier version of Classic Shell but doesn't appear to now be working for 8.1 & 4.2.0
Am I missing something such as a setting or is it now not possible to 'fix' this behaviour in later versions of windows (e.g. such as with the 'copy & replace' dialogue change)?

This was always the behavior since Windows 7. Classic Shell does nothing to change this. I don't know if it is even possible.

Windows XP was the last release to move the focus up and not close Explorer.

Thank you all for your replies, is this something that can't easily be done for Win 7 & 8?

Yes, it is up to Microsoft to fix it. I don't think it can be prevented from closing.

Thanks GauravK, I guess I'll just resort to changing the focus prior to removing/ejecting the media to stop it closing
