Hi When I enable File Version column in a folder I see the file version for e.g. exe and dll files Same behaviour on machine A and B (A has Classic shell explorer, B ha no Classic shell) When I enable File Version column after search, A and B behave different, only B will show file version Is there an option to control this kind of stuff? Alternative can I start an explorer window without classic shell without uninstalling classic shell? (e.g. command line options) Thanks Jens |

You can turn off the shell extensions by doing the reverse of this: http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#explorer_toolbar However it is much easier and safer to temporarily uninstall Classic Shell. All your settings will be preserved for the next time you install it. |

You can be sure that Classic Shell is not affecting the functionality of the File Version column in Explorer. Maybe the Registry values for Details view got deleted from Computer A. The Property handler for EXE/DLL files may have got unregistered. Try pasting this into Notepad, saving it as a .REG file (remove the TXT extension) and merge it into the Registry by double clicking it: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PropertySystem\PropertyHandlers\.exe] @="{66742402-F9B9-11D1-A202-0000F81FEDEE}" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PropertySystem\PropertyHandlers\.dll] @="{66742402-F9B9-11D1-A202-0000F81FEDEE}" It should restore the default property handler for EXE and DLL files. NOTE: This fix is not related to Classic Shell. The Registry fix is only to assist you, so Classic Shell is not responsible for anything that happens from doing Registry modifications. Always backup the concerned Registry key before doing modifications if you are not sure what you are doing. |
