Can you add an option to prevent toolbar buttons deleting/cutting shortcuts in Windows 7 Favourites side bar?

Thank you.

The Favorites side panel is just the contents of the %userprofile%\Links folder. Set security permissions for the Administrators group to Deny for that folder. Here are the exact steps:
1. Press Win+R keys on your keyboard and type LINKS and press Enter.
2. The Links folder will open. Right click in an empty space of this folder and click Properties.
3. Go to the Security tab and click the Advanced button.
4. Click Change Permissions buttons.
5. Select the 'Administrators' group (or your user account if you want to restrict just your user account from deleting the Favorites panel links) and click the Edit button.
6. In the Deny column, check the boxes for "Delete subfolders and files" and "Delete".
7. Click OK to close all dialogs.

Now when you try to delete or cut shortcuts in the Favorites side bar, you will get a permission denied error message.

Thank you. I appreciate your help.

Two comments:

1) Changing Permissions is quite a complicated process. If I do want do delete a link, I'll have to change Permissions twice.
However, if there was an option to only disable the buttons, it would be much more convenient.

2) I still have a problem with pasting files in the wrong folder (and it happens often).
Disabling the buttons would solve this problem too.

Windows has a confirmation for delete options for most folders so even if you press Delete on the toolbar, it won't be deleted straightaway unless you confirm yes. The only place where there is no delete confirmation if you remove something from under Favorites.

If you still paste or delete accidentally, use the Undo button to undo the last operation. Disabling buttons is not the right solution IMHO.

Thank you.

Disabling the buttons as the default setting is not a good idea.
But why not offer the user such an option? Please consider it.

This is pretty arbitrary request. Why not ask to exclude any files with extension .XYZ, or older than 42 days?
If you want something as custom as this you will have to create a custom button action. Instead of using the default delete command, make a small app or script that will contain the logic you need.
