Hi.
I recently reinstalled my system and have noticed that in the previous installation I was getting a share overlay on my shared printers. Which is infinitely helpful.

Having just reinstalled, I'm not getting the overlay on the printer shares any longer. The overlay on the folder shares ARE showing up.

I've made no significant changes to my system...no upgrade of the OS (Win 8 Pro), and basically all the same applications.

I also have an installation (on another...different model...laptop) created from a system image of my old installation from my main system. That other system also shows the overlays on shared printers.

Anyone have any good ideas about what's happening and HOW to make the share overlay appear on the shared printers again?

Many thanks.

The share overlay is intended to show only folders, no other resources. If printers are showing, that's either done by another system (like Windows itself) or is an unintended behavior. If this was an artifact of Classic Shell, it is very likely to be completely turned off in the next version.

Out of curiosity (for the system that shows the printers), if you change the overlay icon in the Classic Shell settings, does it change for both folders and printers?

Yes, it does.

That's unfortunate. The ability to see shared printers at a glance is incredibly useful. As I share and unshare often. But either way, is there a reason that you can think of that the behavior would cease?

Incidentally, it started overlaying the printers from the moment that I first installed classic shell.

The share overlay icon on Printers isn't shown by Classic Shell but by the OS. Even if you change the overlay icon in Classic Explorer settings, the share overlay icon in the Printers folder does not change.
