This annoying problem seems to happen any time I let the program update and I can never remember what I did last time to make it work again.

After 4.0.2 update, the Explorer View->Toolbars->Classic Explorer Bar is greyed out. I even rebooted (PITA) to see if that fixed it but it didn't. What must I do to clear this up and get back the Explorer Toolbar enhancements I used to have?

Why does update do this and can it be fixed? Wasting valuable time on problems like this is beyond annoying.

Most likely the addon got disabled for some reason. It does not usually happen when you upgrade. Maybe you have some security setting that automatically disables addons after they are installed.

To enable it again try the steps listed here: http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#explorer_toolbar

Now I remember why I can never remember how I fixed it. Just wait. Within an hour or two it starts working and you can select the toolbar. Go figure.

Hmm, who'd have thought you need to use Internet Explorer to change Classic's settings for Windows Explorer? Odd, that.

Thanks

Yes that's the way it is because Microsoft made the BHO model shared between Windows Explorer and IE.
