Can classic's shell classic explorer remove search box from files explorer in windows 8.1 ? Because in win 8.1 you cannot disable search, therefore there is no option to remove search box, i.e. in win8 you still had the option in "add/remove programs -> add/remove windows features -> uncheck box windows search", but this is now removed from windows 8.1.

Yes. It can. After installing Classic Shell, open Classic Explorer settings from Start Menu -> All Programs -> Classic Shell. Show All Settings and go to Title Bar tab. It has the option: "Hide search box". Close all Explorer windows and reopen them for changes to take effect.

Thanks :) Classic shell is really great program, it fixes many bad things that microsoft has done. If not classic shell, windows 7 would be the last windows version in the world.

Hi Guys, had similar problem( no Search box). But modifying Classic settings didn't help.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
Turned out the problem was from the Windows search Service was disabled or somehow not installed.
Went to programs and features in Control Panel, then Choose '' Turn Windows features on or off ''
At the bottom there is Windows Search, it was unchecked and so was indexing.
Just checking Windows Search was enough to get the search box in Explorer active again.
After restart.
Just thought I would add this tip for anyone having the search box dissappear on them.
Check the Group Policy Editor ( if you know how to navigate in it) for the Appropriate Setting as well if all else fails.
