First, tell me if this is a CS setting, or a Windows setting. I've lost the icons for each of the 60+ programs in the Start Menu.

If it's a CS setting, is there an automatic backup someone in the folder?

Maybe this post is relevent.
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7040&p=30218&hilit=icon+database#p30218

Heres the important bit:
Quote:
Yes, Classic Shell stores a cache of the icons in this folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\ClassicShell
Right-click on the start button and select Exit. Then delete the contents of that folder. Log off, and see if the problem will be fixed.

There is a known bug in version 4.3.0, that when <No Skin> is selected, some of the icons in the main menu don't show up. That's why I asked to select some skin.

Fixed. :D Was that the feature to rebuild the icon cache or is it elsewhere? Where are the skins?
Does CS have automatic backup, or is it manual?

Skins are stored in the skins folder in the install directory (default is: C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\Skins)
They need manually backed up. and are not stored in the .xml when you 'save .xml' from classic shells settings.
