Hi.
Does anyone have the new Windows 10 Spring Creators Update installed yet,
and does it crash Classic Shell menu?
I read somewhere their Win 10 taskbar/menu has acrylic changes to it.
Could that screw up CSM operations?

I want to make a ported Alienware menu skin,
but don't want to do it if MS kills off CSM.

Did you try upgrade to Spring CU? Does Classic Shell works after it? (and Classic Explorer and Classic IE)

Maybe I'm wrong, but for what I know, 1803 is delayed to May, actually the last update is FCU 1709.

JohnBurns updated his post a few days ago.
He updated to OS Build 17134.1

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8433&p=35759#p35759

My post is almost a month old. I'm still going to wait for the official normal update, just in case.
Now coming the merry month of May, you say. OK.

I have now upgraded regular way to the Win 10 Spring Creators May update:
Desktop says Build 17134,rs4_release,180410-1804
CSM appears to work.
The only new problem I encountered so far is my Classic Shell Menu "Games" link is now killed off.
These are old Win7 games like Solitaire, Halo etc.
See picture.
I think the "explorer shell:Games" has vanished.
I had to make shortcuts to games and settings, putting them in a new folder, to work on the menu again.

juniper, I believe this is happening to people not using Classic Shell - see https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-ne ... -a-69.html (Pages 69 & 70)

It appears this is due to Windows 10 Update - not just Classic Shell users.

Obviously Microsoft does not want users to use older programs, only to use their "Apps" instead.
Probably in time https://www.howtogeek.com/t/windows/
will come up with a simpler solution for everyone on Windows 10 Spring update,
as they have done before. :)

juniper, could you share how you made the games show in the Classic Shell again? I have same problem in 1803. Running "shell:games" just opens
the "Documents" folder however making a shortcut with "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games" opens a folder with the
games' shortcuts in it. Is there a way to get this to show in Classic Shell menu?

Hi dfm0 about the <No Text> Games link missing on Windows 10 1803 update release.

Whichever way works best for your setup, and using the "Customize Start Menu" to set up a link.

Your way in the other post is the easiest & best way to show the Windows7 games,
as long as Microsoft didn't delete the games.
It links to the All users programs folder.
Whoops, I don't see your post anymore? Maybe original topic poster deleted it?

For me I wanted everything in a new made up folder in drive C to have links to "My Games" (settings) folder in the Documents folder,
and link to the "Games"(Win7 games), and "Microsoft Games" found in the two different start menu programs folders.

There might be another way to get it working again without Classic Shell, instead of with a registry hack.

Looking in Regedit, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions
maybe, just maybe there is a way to put back the CLSID Key {ED228FDF-9EA8-4870-83b1-96b02CFE0D52} for shell:Games???
I have very little knowledge of how to use Registry Edit program and have killed Windows from starting by changing stuff in past. It is very dangerous dabbling in the unknown.

Some smartie will come up with a simple safe clickable registry add file in future. ;)

I was able to get it to work with these settings:
Click twice on Games then select Custom from drop down list then right-click and Edit item.

Command is empty

Link: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games

Label: Games

Tip: $Menu.GamesTip

Icon: %SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll, 14

I'm on the same boat, with the latest update.
...and for what I found, there are no more games in the "Games" folder!

With the exception of games, the rest seems to work well.
Now I can also keep an eye on the GPU performance.

fonpaolo, unless I'm thinking of someone else, I thought you were a Win7 kind of person, never a Win10er?

Il nostro overlord Microsoft

If you have really given in and sacrificed yourself over to Win 10, and still like the old games,
Use Winaero Tweaker to put them back.

I'm a Win 7 Pro user!
...but I also have another disk with Win 10 Pro installed.

Although I don't like Win 10, but I've to keep myself updated, otherwise, how can I criticize the latest updates? ;)

Thats what I like to see, a willingness to try new/bad things even if its just to criticise them :P
Windows 10 has alot of bad going for it, but it does have quite a few cool features too :P
Overall 7 is def better though (because most of these 'features' can be added to 7 anyways via 3rd party programs)

I can say that I'm both excited and disappointed with Win 10.
With the latest update, I can see the performance of my GPU, starting from FCU they've added this feature, but at that time they said you'll need a new graphics card, now I can see everything even with my old GPU.

On the other side, they're constantly hiding, moving, removing, blocking almost every possibility to change, disable and personalize that ugly Win 10 interface...
They collect more and more data about you, the software you're using, and so on...
