Never knew one could make hot keys for menu folders,:o or am I delving too much? As I'm a real mouser, with it embedded in my hand, never use the keyboard that much, but was playing around and found something. In case anybody wants to try. Make a custom command\item. Link up your folder, and put "&" in front of the label name. So hitting the left Win key, release, then hit the letter key that is first letter in label name, it gets to that folder a bit faster than mouse navigating. Only problems I see, are having to remember the letter, and to not use certain letters already taken up already, like P etc. Always wondered what the underlined letters in the menu meant. Are there other hidden symbol gems in CSM? That dollar sign looks mighty tantalizing. ![]()

Correct, those underlined letters are called keyboard accelerators and are defined using ampersand (&). You can define your own for custom items or change them for existing items. You can also make the underlines always show by going to Control Panel: Ease of Access Center: Make the keyboard easier to use: Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys. Or you can hide them and press Alt to show them. For items inside the Start Menu which are shortcuts (*.LNK), you can directly assign hotkeys to them from their Properties -> Shortcut tab. Then without even opening the menu, you can launch them. Create a shortcut to a folder or program and assign a shortcut to directly open it. The recently used programs list also supports digits as accelerators. In Start Menu settings -> Special Items tab, if you set the option: "Shortcuts for the recent programs" to Digits or Hidden Digits, then the first 10 apps from Recent list can be opened using number keys on your keyboard. |
