I don't know what "sysprep" is. The custom order of the programs is stored in the registry. If your registry is lost the order of the programs will be reset. Also the order is stored based on the absolute path of the folder. If the start menu moves to a new location the order will be lost.

Thank you for your answer.
The sysprep is something to do when you want to clone a lot of computer for a domain (One SID for one computer).
I have installed an old version and it works (3.8)
Where, are the informations in the registry ?
Thanks.

The format of the order information has changed between versions 3.6.8 and 4.0. It is one of the few breaking changes that were introduced in version 4.

I haven't understood the issue. Are the icons in your menu are all sorted by A-Z and you are unable to move them? In that case, right click the menu and uncheck Auto Arrange.

If the problem is that you had a custom sorted order previously which was lost after Sysprep, you need to restore the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Order to what it was before you sysprepped it. This key is for Classic Shell 4.x. For Classic Shell 3.x, it was different.

Thank you for your answer.
I don't have "auto range" when i right click to the menu...
If you look the second picture of my thirst question, you can see that I have don't check "sort the main menu..."
My problem is not to move or not move icons. I can do it after sysprep. But the sysprep is the final image of my master for deployment. I musn't touch it.
I compared the two files of the registry with notepad++ (before and after sysprep). They are the same.
Thanks

Are the items in your screenshots menu items added from the Customize Start Menu tab of Start Menu Settings or are they regular folders whose icons you have customized?

Where did you right click? I don't mean the Start button. You must right click on one of the folders itself. There will be an item "Auto Arrange" just above the "New Folder" item. Uncheck it. You might have it in a cascading menu called "Organize Start menu"

But if the Registry keys before/after sysprep are the same, I don't know what else is making the order change.

The value names under the HKCU\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Order key are different for each user because they are a hash of the full folder path and the user name is part of the full folder path and varies for each account. So each user will have a unique hash.

Migrating the sort order between users is not supported.

The only thing you can do is name your Start Menu shortcuts alphabetically so the default A-Z order will be used if the data in the Registry is missing. But if you want a custom sort order applied to all users, that's not possible.

Thank you for you answer.

But on an older version (3.6.8) it worked with windows 7. Why not now ?
Thank you.
