I'm using classic shell (windows 7) with windows 10. I noticed a couple of items that seem to be bugs. First, "settings" has an arrow to the side as if it's a menu, but the menu is empty. I think this is because settings is an application, not a menu. Second, if you type some windows commands in search box, they come up twice. One is for the shortcut in the menu. The other appears to be the actual executable. Examples are snip, notepad, paint. It should only display the menu shortcut. |

Settings has an arrow because its shortcut which is created by Windows, tells Classic Shell that it has a jumplist. In search, the EXE and shortcut appear because Classic Start Menu has a feature to search EXEs from the system path. If you want to see only shortcuts, open Classic Start Menu Settings and go to the "Search Box" tab. Uncheck the option "Search the system path" and click OK. You will still be able to open EXE, CPL and MSC files by typing their full names in the search box but they won't show up in search results when you type their partial names. |

Thanks for the reply. Gaurav wrote: Settings has an arrow because its shortcut which is created by Windows, tells Classic Shell that it has a jumplist. So I guess that's a windows bug.Gaurav wrote: In search, the EXE and shortcut appear because Classic Start Menu has a feature to search EXEs from the system path. I tried this and it fixes cases like snip, but unfortunately it will no longer find an executable like msconfig. It would be a nice feature to be able to search the system path but ignore executables for which there is already a shortcut to the same executable.

It finds msconfig even if you turn off "Search the system path". You have to type the full name though as it finds it via App Paths feature (https://micksmix.wordpress.com/2011/08/ ... istry-key/). This behavior is exactly like the Windows 7 Start Menu. |
