I trying to remove some stuff from the start menu win7 style also add some stuff too preferbly only with gpo. What I want to remove is: Music (Muziek) Games (ontspanning) Recent items (Recent geopende items) Control Panel (configuratiescherm) PC-Settings (Pc-instellingen) Devices and Printers (apparaten en printers) Standard Programs (standaard programma's) What I want to add is: The users download folder The left empty space, can I use that for pinned programs? I would want shortcuts there to browsers, office applications and maybe some links to websites. Thanks, Btw I tried searching the forum for removing recent items, but if I enter that in the search field it tells me the words are to common Btw2 this is windows 10 ltsb 2016 |

Yes everything you asked is possible. To remove Recent items, open Start Menu Settings. In the Search box at the top, type: recent and pick Don't Show for "Show recent or frequent programs". You can right click ANYTHING - a file, a program EXE or a shortcut, or a folder and choose "Pin to Start Menu (Classic Shell)." To pin a website, right click on any existing pinned item and choose "New shortcut" (just above Properties) in the context menu. A new shortcut wizard will open where you can type the URL of the website and give it a name. Here is how you can add or remove items using GPO: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3374 |

So here is what I did and how the outcome is. login as user with classic start menu 1 column (before I started I made sure to click reset all settings) Here is the default look: Then I removed some stuff from the current menu items pane: So here is how it looks in classic: Now I go to the regedit and copy the content of HKCU\Software\Ivosoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings\MenuItems1 I paste it on my server in the group policy called Menu items for the Windows 7 style. Now I log in with a user that gets that policy and start menu looks like this: And I want it to look more like this: So what am I doing wrong that causes the layout to turn out so differently? |

You must choose the same style that you want to use in your GPO settings. If you want to use Windows 7 style, first open Classic Start Menu Settings and go the first tab called "Start Menu Style". Pick Windows 7 style there. Then go to the Customize Start Menu tab and add or remove items as you want. In the Registry, the value you need to copy for Windows 7 style is: MenuItems7, not MenuItems1. MenuItems1=Classic single column or just "Classic style" MenuItems2=Classic with two columns MenuItems7=Windows 7 style Throughout all steps, you must pick a style and stick with it. |

That was it! Thanks Maybe I need a new topic for this question but... In gpo i have set the shutdown options to logoff, shutdown, restart. But when I press alt+f4 all the other options are still available, is there something i can do about that? |

The Alt+F4 dialog is part of Windows. You have to look at the OS's own GPOs. |

I know and have set those, unfortunatly the GPO's are only per computer and not per user(group). But OK I learn to live with that One last thing, I believe it is not a classic shell thing but more of a google thing but maybe someone knows. Can I get rid of this "side-dropdown" menu |

The "side-dropdown" is called a jumplist. Look for the "Enable jumplists" setting in the Main Menu tab. |
