The font name, size and color are controlled by the skin. Here's how you can edit a skin: http://www.classicshell.net/tutorials/skintutorial.html

Ivo,

i don't know what i did wrong but i edited a theme in reshack to change the main font, submenu font & caption font, but each time i start my computer with that startmenu, it freezes my explorer.exe & i can't right click on desktop icons etc .. . so i have to kill explorer.exe & restart it .. .

here's the file:

When you saved the skin, you have to make sure Classic Start Menu isn't running or using that skin or the saved skin DLL might become corrupt.

What do you mean by "saved skin dll" ? this > ClassicStartMenuDLL.dll ?
or this:
My Skin With Fixed Font type.skin

i'll assume you're considering a *.skin as a dll, so i won't reinstall classic shell & reuse a basic skin to rebuild a new one.

Yes the skin file is a DLL even if the extension is a .skin. :) Try reusing the basic skin to create a new one with CSM exited.

The skin worked for me. Looks like it is pretty ancient though. Maybe you are using a very old version of Classic Shell.
I recommend you upgrade to the latest 3.6.7.

so the problem lies with classic shell not the theme? your saying
when you re-installed classic shell did you un-install the old copy via control panel first?
and im asuming the 3 previous versions include the latest?

can you right click and select 'settings' or does that freeze to?
try moving all of your files out of the install directory before installing (after removing the program via add/remove programs), maybe something in your settings is corrupting it.

Ivo may have you run a debugger or something if this fails.

I don't know what disabled it & i don't want to know, it was wasting my time & driving me nuts,
so i recovered a backup of the registry & will have to go over step by step & slowly to reregister some apps. it's functioning now ... .

All right,

i disabled services step by step & found out the service that makes explorer & classicshell freeze "to hell".
i needed to end the process tree of explorer & call the task manager through ctrl alt del since i couldnt access the deskbar.

So this is what happens Ivo >>

Disabling "Ssdp Discovery" in services, freezes explorer if i'm running classicshell .. .
Setting the service back to manual has no impact on classicshell or explorer.

Why > This is the moment where i cannot bring any answers & maybe you
will be able to tell me why it happens or eventually update classic shell in a way that
ssdp will not be needed & have no impact on cs, when disabled in the future .. .

Why would you want to disable it? This is a component of the OS. It's like asking why your car doesn't run if you unscrew the water pump.
I don't know what this service does but it must be required for some of the functionality that Classic Shell uses.

"Shell hardware detection" is the service in question.
not ssdp ..

& i needed to get rid of many useless services to free my computer's ram & chipset.

& i reactivated shell hardware detection .. .
