so I have a dual monitor setup, and if i have a window maximized on the second monitor and i click the start button, that maximized window on the second monitor is minimized... doesn't matter what the window is.

Is there any way to make it so that clicking the start button does not minimize other windows? It's essentially stealing focus and I'd like to stop that behavior if possible.

Im assuming its a game.. go into its settings and look for 'windowed full-screen'
Also you may need http://www.snakebytestudios.com/projects/apps/cursor-lock/ to keep the mouse on the screen. its a bit complicated to set-up but its free

The start menu does not minimize other windows. It may be a feature of that particular program that it gets minimized if it loses focus.

I know you can do this with http://www.displayfusion.com/?refid=373553
it has a function 'Prevent Window Deactivation' that you can assign to a hotkey or trigger for a specific program
however its only a free trial (but if you have multiple monitors, I would highly recommend the program for its many useful features)
