I was using Start8 (yeah a competitor) in my Win 8.1 for a while until I discovered it interfered with the Excel data connection function (read online files directly into Excel). I never got a reply from them on why that might be but removing Start8's interference needed a Windows RESET !!

I wonder if anyone is running Classic Start and using the data connections functions of Excel.

I really don't want to do a system reset with my Win10 upgrade.

You can give Classic Shell a try. When it is uninstalled, it only leaves behind some of its own settings in case you need to reinstall or upgrade it. It doesn't do any permanent modifications to Windows files or Registry settings at all. There is also a separate Classic Shell Utility to cleanly remove all traces of Classic Shell from your system in case you are not satisfied, leaving the system as it was.
