Little confused on settings.

Win 8.1/Skip Metro Screen: Purpose? Same as native Taskbar/Navigation/Go to desktop instead of Start when I sign in?

Win 8.1/Disable active corners: what should be the setting for: charms only for Metro (Start) Screen and not for desktop?

Win 8.1/Open start screen with mouse: do not understand

Using Win7 menu style; See Start Screen icon in left panel and intuitively that means to me "click to switch to Metro", but it just blinks the (Classic) menu and doesn't do anything. Another purpose or do I have a setting error someplace?

Skip Metro Screen: Yes

Active corners: Set to All to disable all corners on the desktop

Open start screen: the start screen will open on the same monitor that has the mouse pointer. hover over the setting and you will see a tooltip that describes what it does.

Start Screen icon: Yes, that's what it is supposed to do. Another person also reported that it didn't work for him. See here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1362
He did not answer my questions in the other post though. Please do that. Without that information I can't fix it.

Active corners: Set to All to disable all corners on the desktop
Suggestion: Relabel "Disable active corners" to "Disable active corners on the Desktop". I know that Classic is for desktop control, but even after looking at the tooltips (which I didn't know existed), I found the label confusing.

Open start screen
Suggestion: Add "for multi-montors" to label.

For the inactive Start Screen icon:

Quote:
Press Shift+Win
Shows Metro

Quote:
Run the Start Screen shortcut from the C:\Program Files\Classic Shell folder
Shows Classic menu

Quote:
Open a command prompt and run "C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe" -togglenew
Shows Classic menu

Hope that helps.

Are you sure you are using version 4.0.0? This reminds me of an issue that existed in one of the betas, maybe 3.9.5.
Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows?

Installed 4.0.0 over 3.9.5. Just to be sure, uninstalled Classic, rebooted & reinstalled to different folder (_Program Files). When I clicked Start Screen, got message that shortcut was to unavailable location & chose option to delete shortcut. Clicked Start Screen icon again & still get "blink" (close/reopen) on Classic menu. Tried shortcut directly in _Program Files & still opens Classic menu as I reported before.

I'm using 64 bit version of Win8.1 Preview with current Win updates.

Really strange. Works for me fine on Windows 8.1 RTM. The Start screen icon in the Start Menu as well the one in C:\Program Files\Classic Shell open Metro. "C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe" -togglenew also opens Metro.

OK, let's try this:
1) Download the attached zip file
2) Right-click on the start button and select Exit
3) Go to the Classic Shell folder
4) Delete the file ClassicStartMenuDLL.dll
5) Replace it with the file from the zip
6) Run ClassicStartMenu.exe
7) Open the start menu and try the shortcut again
8) If the shortcut is not there, make sure the setting "Show Start screen shortcut" in Main Menu is checked

(Note that this DLL fix is only for 4.0.0 and 64-bit only. Later versions include the fix)

Which version of Classic Shell and Windows are you using?
